PREMISE

THE RESERVATION
reservation: a district that is reserved for particular purpose
The Reservation is a small area reserved for its new inhabitants - you and the city folk. You were brought here for your protection, because you were believed to be in danger. No one knows what this danger is but you're all here for the same reason and you can't leave, not until you're safe. Whilst the outside world had been destroyed it is something that the city inhabitants don't like to talk about, with too many bad memories.

Arrival
You awaken one morning in a white room, the bed less than comfortable and there are no windows to tell you of your location. After the grogginess fades you are left with confusion, though you're not alone for long. A smiling face approaches, white coat donned and clipboard in hand.

"It's okay." They tell you, soothingly. They introduce themselves as a doctor, one of the many at this facility. "We found you near the outskirts of the complex, you'd collapsed. Everything's alright, your vitals are stable and there are no lingering effects." You can't remember collapsing but their smile, their formality makes you want to believe.

After being helped up the doctor begins to lead you out. "Registration is just down this hall; Sarah will help to settle you."

Everything looks normal, people are going about their daily business and there are others like you, so many that a small queue begins to form. When you reach desk Sarah smiles at you, handing you a short form along with a registration pack.

The form has basic detail requests on it and the pack comes with a key, information and a phone.

"That's your papers and apartment key, try not to lose it. There's a map in the envelope along with some instructions on how to get started."

After a little while, with a crowd gathering, someone will come into the foyer. They're announced as the mayor who will give you the full story: your world is in danger, just like this one was. They managed to be able to rescue you before it collapsed, saving you from the dangers that they went through. Hopefully you'll settle in and make a contribution to the community - it's all that's left now.

Working in the Reservation is encouraged, and as close to enforced as it can be. Communities only thrive if everyone takes part and there's a lot that can be done - farming, patrols, construction, even teaching. The mayor will help set you up in any job you can fit to. Whilst there's a local intranet it's very limited, more like a bulletin board style forum for all your questions and needs. As for outside of the borders? It's advised not to go further than the patrols - and there isn't anything out there to see.

CHARACTER DROP / HIATUS

Need a hiatus from the game? Sure thing! Remember to post a note over at [community profile] reservationooc.

Unfortunately some people need to leave the game or drop a character. When doing so please make sure that you're certain of your decision as you won't be able to return/reapply for the character for two weeks.

If you're leaving we're sorry to see you go. If you had any problems with the game or would just like to leave feedback then feel free to contact the mods! All comments here are screened.

FAQ

WHAT IS THE RESERVATION?
The Reservation is a small city, location unknown (and unimportant to the city folk), that you have found yourself in. Once you arrive at the center you're told that you're here for your protection, that you arrived just in time - that something dreadful was going to happen. No one knows what exactly but the story is the same with everyone that you ask.

WHO RUNS THE RESERVATION?
The Reservation is run by a council. They keep very much to themselves but oversee everything that happens during your stay. Whilst they claim that you are here for your own well-being you soon find that to not exactly be the case.

WHAT CHARACTERS ARE ACCEPTED HERE?
All canon characters and original characters (including fandom original) are accepted.

CAN I PLAY A CHARACTER AU/GENDERSWAPPED?
Genderswapped characters aren't allowed, the same with alternate versions of a character, unless there has been an incident in canon - for example an alternating timeline.

WHAT ABOUT MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF A CHARACTER?
Only one version of a character is allowed in the game at one time barring an alternate universe scenario, for example James Kirk from Star Trek The Original Series and James Kirk from the 2009 Star Trek movie would both be appable due to the alternate timeline that emerged, similar for the different X-Men universes (for example movie version Wolverine and the comic versions of Wolverine).

WHAT ABOUT HEADCANON?
Whilst it is known that not every character comes with a complete history and backstory - some barely have any - it is preferable that your application keeps headcanon to a minimum. This isn't to say that you can't extrapolate certain things, such as "being focussed helped X within their work" but anything futher than something small such as that will mean being asked for revisions to your application.

WHAT ABOUT IMPORTING CHARACTERS WITH PAST GAME HISTORY?
It is required that your character be brought fresh from canon rather than inclusive of any previous game history. This prevents confusion not only for your character when meeting others that they may previously have known but also for the premise and the scientists within the game, as the portal to bring others here would not be able to span into the other game universes.

WHAT ABOUT THE FOURTH WALL?
As all characters believe themselves to be real the fourth wall is not allowed to be broken.

WHAT ABOUT ABILITIES?
If your character possesses special abilities, is a vampire or some other creature (providing that they haven't been changed to human form) then they keep those abilities and at full strength too. Though, if the council finds that you're abusing your abilities they will step in - everyone is here for their own safety.

WHAT HAPPENS UPON ARRIVAL?
After you awaken and are informed of how and why you arrived, and even where you are you're taken to registration where, following that, you're free to leave, to explore, to settle in to your accommodation, to meet others or to find yourself a job - whatever you may desite.

YOU MENTIONED LIVING?
Of course! Whilst accommodation may be free, any services or items that your character wishes to purchase will come with a cost meaning that your character will need to find themselves some form of employment. Although the reservation is functioning with employees in each building, there is great understaffing and as well as helping your character earn money, finding a job also helps the running of the reservation stay smooth. Your characters hours are determined based on how much they wish to work and the requirements within the job. All positions and places are available so apply quickly to receive the one you desire!

WHAT ABOUT THE POSTING?
There are multiple methods of posting, either text, voice or video entries which would be done via your characters phone/computer or real action posts which would be done face to face with other characters.

SO THE EVENTS...
There are two types of events - game wide events and character based events. Game wide events affect the entire reservation (should you choose for your character to be affected) whilst character based events effect your character and only your character. Information on events will be posted when an event is due to occur.

ANYTHING ELSE
Actually, no. Not unless you have any questions. Barring leaving and contacting the outside world you are free to live your life as you see fit, the emphasis being on live.

POSTING GUIDE

One of the things given to you when you arrive is a phone which comes with a variety of functions. Posts to [livejournal.com profile] thereservation will revolve around these functions which are Text, Voice & Video. Alternatively, once your character has saved up or takes a visit to the library, your character can also make these posts from a computer. All computers and phones are hooked up to the central network via the internet and all posts will be stored on the network in its database.

text
Text posts come in two formats. The first is a short text post, like a text message, sent to one individual. The second is a longer text entry, like updating a livejournal. The first can only be received and responded to by the person its meant for. The second can be responded to by anyone providing the poster doesn't place a filter on it. Only text posts will be stored on the network.
Example: text message
From: Character A
To: Character B

Message here

Example: text post
Message here. It can be as long or as short as you'd like - for conversational or information purposes.

voice
Voice posts, posted from the phone, can be posted to the entire network, to an individual person or to a select group.
Example: voice post

[ action ] / ( action ) / *action*
Text is displayed as such.

Actions include anything that your character does, facial expressions or how they feel or think about something that is said

video
Video posts, most commonly done from a computer webcam, are sent to network and are visible to all. Replies can be done via video or text posts but are not filterable*.

* Video posts are filterable should your characters move the video conversation to something else (e.g. Skype)
Example: video post

[ action ] / ( action ) / *action*
Text is displayed as such.

Actions include anything that your character does, facial expressions or how they feel or think about something that is said

real action
Other than text, voice and video posts you can also post to the community with a real action post - for example in the reservation or your apartment. Real action posts can be made private to an individual, for example if they've planned a meeting, or can be spontaneous and open for anyone to reply to.
Example: real action post
Where is your character? What are they doing, something specific or just walking? How do they feel, what are they thinking?

Real action posts are written in prose format (for logs) or in action-style comments (for open posts).

"Character B is mean." Said Character A.

RULES

  • Playing your character canonly is not only advised, it is required. While the moderators may not know every canon they will make an effort to check. If we feel that a character's application is being portrayed OOC, said application will be rejected.
  • Activity checks will be done on a monthly basis. The minimum requirement to pass the activity check is one post/log per month made by your character. Activity checks will be completed on the 8th of each month.
  • In regards to new canon, film adaptations or new series, the mods request that players wait a month before placing an application. This will allow a player to test out a character and to see if they still wish to play them before bringing them into a game.
  • There is currently a five character limit on per person and same fandom characters are limited to two per fandom to help reduce limitations on character interaction, though only one of those can be a main character.
  • AU characters are only accepted if there is a situation in canon which provides for an alternate universe - for example the original Star Trek series and the 2009 Star Trek movie.
  • Drama of any kind, in the OOC fashion, isn't tolerated at [community profile] thereservation. If the mods hear of any drama, either through their own knowledge or from another member, it will be dealt as swiftly as possible. The aim of [community profile] thereservation is to provide a fun, enjoyable atmosphere, this can only happen if [community profile] thereservation is kept drama free. Also, in regards to this, any issues that a player has with another player, or their character, should also be left OOC and not be brought into the game.
  • God modding is not allowed at [community profile] thereservation. While is it a fact that some characters are powerful, we ask that you allow the other players the courtesy of control of their characters. There may be situations, such as in a fight, where it can be harder to be clear. This is where character permission memes come in. If anything is unclear, we request that you talk with the other plays involved.
  • If any thread becomes one that involves adult content, we request that it be continued/posted on a character journal rather than the main community. A link can be provided in the original thread so that other players following the thread can continue if they wish. We also ask that a warning is posted for the younger members, or to warn for NSFW content.
  • Pregnancies are allowed in-game providing that they are plausible, and for a reasonable gestation (unless of alien species or a character comes into the game already pregnant)
  • New rules will be added or amended at the moderators discretion. All members will be informed of any changes.
